Why Server Side Caching Totally Delivers

Scene from the movie Home Alone. A pizza delivery boy delivers 10 large pizzas to a home from the 1980s.

Recently, our developer Kevin was so moved to help others understand the importance of improving site speed that he wrote a blog post about it.

In fact, he wrote two of ’em!

  1. Part 1 – “Why Is My Website So Slow?” outlines the steps required to load a single webpage. (There are 10!)
  2. Part 2 – “5 Tips To Help Your Website Load Faster” offers five practical tips you can use to help your site load as fast as it possibly can.

In both posts, Kevin talks about the vital role server side caching plays in drastically improving the load time of your website.

Below are a few excerpts from this blog series to help get you up to speed on server side caching. ⬇️

What are static pages?

Static pages are those where the content will be the same for all users at any given time, such as your site’s homepage or a blog post.

Why enable server caching for static pages?

The purpose of the server cache is to reduce load and latency by remembering recent page fetches and serving them again.

This is so browsers don’t have to go through the effort of rebuilding the page from scratch (or, technically, from the database).

Do you have server side caching?

If you host your website with us and WP Engine, server side caching is already included in your hosting plan.

(If you’re not sure, we recommend reaching out to your provider and asking them if server side caching is one of the benefits they provide.)

–> And since we all have the need for (more and more) speed, having server side caching means your static content totally delivers. ✅

Site speed is critical for the success of almost every part of a user’s web journey.
